Dog Friendly Whether you fancy a scenic riverside walk, a family day out or a quiet spot to relax and unwind in nature, Pickering’s Pasture Local Nature Reserve is one of the best-loved green spaces in the Halton area.
The reserve is a real success story. Once an industrial site used for tipping, the land was reclaimed and transformed into the thriving Local Nature Reserve you see today, home to a diverse range of grassland, meadow and estuary habitats. Its riverside position offers superb views across the Mersey towards the Frodsham Hills, Weston Point and, on a clear day, the Welsh mountains beyond.
The riverside path is one of the main attractions. Part of the Trans Pennine Trail, it draws walkers, cyclists and birdwatchers alike, with the tidal estuary supporting a wonderful variety of wildfowl and wading birds through the seasons.
Pickering’s Pasture is popular with dog walkers and families throughout the year. Other facilities within the reserve include picnic areas, open meadows for the children to run and play, designated walking routes and plenty of quiet benches to pause and take in the view. And when you are ready for a break, Esposito’s is right here to look after you.

Here at Esposito’s in Pickering’s Pasture, we serve modern English Italian food made fresh daily by our very own kitchen team based in Halton, including artisan toasted sandwiches, authentic Italian coffee and a selection of gelato ice cream flavours. We are also a popular Widnes cake shop serving a variety of homemade bakes and sweet treats.We pride ourselves on our inclusive and welcoming environment, which is why we cater for all dietary requirements. Just speak to a member of our team, who looks forward to giving you a warm welcome when you arrive. Our Widnes deli is open Monday to Friday between 9 am and 5 pm, and you can find us at Pickering’s Pasture on Mersey Road.
